Rep. Wilson Issues Statement on Court Ruling on Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON, Dec. 19 -- Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Florida, issued the following statement in response to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals' ruling against the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate:

Rep. Wilson highlighted the devastating impact that this ruling could have on the 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions, including 7,810,300 Floridians.

"Today's ruling in support of the Trump Administration's all-out assault on health care in the courts is a grave blow to the health and financial security of Florida families who rely on the Affordable Care Act's life-saving protections.

"On day one of this Congress, our House Democratic Majority voted to throw the full legal weight of the House of Representatives into the fight against this lawsuit, and we will continue to fight in the courts and the Congress to protect and strengthen Americans' health care."

The ruling could have disastrous consequences on the health and financial well-being of Florida families:

- 7,810,300 - Number of Florida men, women and children who have pre-existing conditions and will lose their protections.

- 1,600,000 - Number of Floridians who will lose all health care coverage.

- 132,000 - Young Floridians under age 26 who will lose the ability to remain on their parents' insurance.

- $4,007 - Amount of a new "Age Tax" that insurance companies could charge Floridians over the age of 50.

- 5,587,000 - Number of Floridians who face reinstated lifetime and annual limits on coverage.

- 1,432,332 - Number of Floridians who will pay more for coverage without access to health insurance affordability tax credits.

- 334,343 - Number of Floridian seniors who will have to pay more for their prescription drugs.
