Delta Dental Partners with Superior HealthPlan to Provide Dental Benefits to Texas STAR Enrollees
FLOWER MOUND, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Delta Dental Insurance Company will provide dental benefits for Superior HealthPlan’s STAR Health, STAR+PLUS and Medicare Advantage Programs, the two companies announced today.
The alliance will direct commercial-quality dental benefits to an underserved, low-income population with many unmet dental needs.
STAR, the state and federal Medicaid program that provides free insurance to qualified children and adults, is managed by Superior on behalf of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). Delta Dental benefits become available beginning June 1 for enrollees in Superior’s three main programs: STAR Health, for children and young adults in the Texas Foster Care program; STAR+PLUS, the Texas Medicaid managed care program for low-income people who have disabilities or are elderly; and Medicare Advantage, which covers individuals with both Medicare and Medicaid.

STAR Health: STAR Health offers health care coverage for Texas children and young adults in foster care. Services and benefits include Preventive Health, such as regular checkups and immunizations, office visits, visits to the dentist and visits for eye checkups; Behavioral Health Care; Hospital coverage and Prescriptions and medical supplies. In addition, Telemedicine services – consultations and assessments done by a provider using teleconference capability – and online access to health information are also available. STAR+PLUS: STAR+PLUS is a Texas Medicaid managed care program for low-income people who have physical or mental disabilities or who are elderly. Offered in the San Antonio and Corpus Christi areas, the program includes such benefits as primary and specialty physician care, prescription drugs and medical supplies, mental health care, hospital care and vision services. It also offers many other services ranging from language interpretation and health care service coordination to meal delivery/preparation assistance, housekeeping and adult day care.The value-added dental services, available only to STAR+PLUS Members who are not enrolled in Medicare, include one periodic exam per benefit year, an emergency exam, certain x-rays and extractions. Effective June 1, Delta Dental also will administer the dental benefits for Members enrolled in the STAR+PLUS waiver program, which includes a $5,000 maximum benefit year. Medicare Advantage: Medicare Advantage by Superior HealthPlan (HMO) is a Special Needs Medicare Advantage Plan serving dual eligible members. Superior’s service areas include Bexar County, Texas. Benefits include Part D prescription drug benefits, transportation to appointments, nurses to help with health services and choice of doctors and pharmacies. Effective June 1, dental benefits include one full-mouth x-ray, two comprehensive oral evaluations and two cleanings per calendar year, fluoride treatments and a $500 annual benefit for additional dental services.
