Apollo CEO Marc Rowan reportedly a contender for Trump treasury secretary
Marc Rowan, billionaire co-founder and CEO of Apollo Global Management, Inc., has reportedly emerged as a key candidate for treasury secretary by President-elect Donald Trump.
According to the New York Times, Trump has considered several candidates to lead the Treasury. In addition to Rowan, Trump may be considering Howard Lutnick, CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald who has been heading Trump’s transition. Former Federal Reserve governor Kevin Warsh and Senator Bill Hagerty of Tennessee are names that have also been discussed. The Financial Times reported on Tuesday that Rowan has emerged as a top contender for the Treasury job, citing several people familiar with the matter.
According to Bloomberg News, Trump was scheduled to interview Rowan and Warsh Wednesday.
Rowan currently serves on the boards of directors of Apollo Global Management, Inc. and Athene Holding Ltd. Currently, he is chair of the Board of Advisors of the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. According to Apollo, Rowan is involved in public policy and is an initial funder and contributor to the development of the Penn Wharton Budget Model, a nonpartisan research initiative which provides analysis of public policy’s fiscal impact. Rowan graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business with a BS and an MBA in Finance.
According to Apollo, Rowan is "an active philanthropist and civically engaged," and is chair of the board of UJA-Federation of New York, the world’s largest local philanthropy helping 4.5 million people annually while funding a network of nonprofits in New York, Israel, and 70 countries. He is also a founding member and Chair of Youth Renewal Fund and Vice Chair of Darca, Israel’s top educational network operating 47 schools with over 27,000 students throughout its most diverse and under-served communities.
