WATERLOO — A Waterloo woman has pleaded to insurance fraud in connection with a hailstorm that never happened.
Agents with the Iowa Insurance Fraud Bureau allege Miyisha Lashay McNealy, 43, submitted a claim for hail damage to her vehicle suffered in a December 2023 storm.
But weather reports showed there was no hailstorm on the date she claimed, and a review of dealership records show the damage on her vehicle was there before she bought the vehicle, according to the bureau.
McNealy was arrested in July and pleaded to one count of insurance fraud.
On Oct. 24, she was sentenced to five years in prison suspended to up to five years of probation.
Iowans with information about insurance fraud are encouraged to contact the Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau at (515) 654-6556.
