Willard Spech Willard Spech, age 93, entered his heavenly home January 9, 2024. He was born the 2nd son of John and Dorothy Spech on a farm south of Yutan, Nebraska. At age two, Willard moved to Ashland, Nebraska with his brother Richard. He graduated from Ashland High School, where he met his partner for life, Janice Nelson. They celebrated their 72nd anniversary this December. Willard graduated with a BS in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and was a member of the Beta Sigma Psi fraternity. He entered the USAF in 1954 and spent sixteen months in France. After separating from the Air Force, Willard moved his family to Omaha and accepted an underwriting position with Guarantee Mutual Life Insurance and progressed to become Vice President-Underwriting, spending 32 years in their employment. He earned many accolades and served on committees of a national underwriting association. Willard was very active in the Kiwanis Club of Omaha Westside, serving in various positions including President. He and Janice also volunteered regularly as members of the Lutheran Church of the Master. For many years, Willard read for Radio Talking Book, broadcasting news and current events for the blind. Willard was an avid golfer and sports fan. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals, even naming one son after Stan Musial. The Nebraska football games provided lots of weekend entertainment with the family. Willard is survived by his wife, Janice Spech; children: Jackie Spech Hahn (Dustan),Florida; Stan Spech (Mary-Ann), Florida; Karen Spech Obermeier, Omaha; Jim Spech (Lisa),Omaha; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Willard was proceeded in death by his parents John and Dorothy Spech, Step-Mother Eloise Spech, brother Richard Spech and daughter Dianne Kay Spech who passed away at three, all of which he will now join in heaven. MEMORIAL SERVICE: Saturday, February 3, 10:30 a.m. at Brookestone Meadows Chapel (600 Brookestone Meadows Plz Elkhorn, NE 68022). In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Endless Journey Hospice.
