NORWALK, California, Nov. 22 -- Rep. Linda T. Sanchez, D-California, issued the following statement after another collision between a Metrolink train and a recreational vehicle near the intersection of Rosecrans and Marquardt avenues in the Santa Fe Springs:
"Thankfully there were no injuries in today's crash.
"This intersection needs to be fixed as soon as possible, which is why I've worked to get federal funding for this project.
"A grade separation project will drastically reduce the risk of potentially fatal accidents and improve traffic flow. "
Background
The California Public Utilities Commission rates the Rosecrans/Marquardt grade crossings as the most dangerous in California because the railroad comes in at an angle and crosses the middle of the two streets. Over 112 trains and over 45,000 vehicles use this crossing each day.
In 2016, Congresswoman Sanchez helped secure a $15 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the Rosecrans/Marquardt grade separation project in Santa Fe Springs. Construction for the project is set to begin by January 2021.
