Public Invited to Provide Input on Arcadia, Wisconsin, Flood Study

ST. PAUL, Minn., Nov. 22 -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-St. Paul District issued the following news release:

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, and the city of Arcadia, Wisconsin, will host a community meeting to solicit public input on the scope of its Arcadia flood risk management feasibility study.

The meeting will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, at Arcadia High School auditorium, 765 Raider Dr., Arcadia.

The intent of the feasibility study is to identify and evaluate flood risk management alternatives for the city of Arcadia. This community meeting is the first step in the feasibility study process, which is to gather information that should be considered when devising and evaluating alternative plans. Public input will help the Corps and city identify the problems, challenges, opportunities, issues, objectives and constraints surrounding managing flood risk in Arcadia.

The Corps will develop an environmental assessment as part of the feasibility study, as required by the National Environmental Policy Act, or NEPA. The Corps must assess the environmental impacts of alternatives prior to making a recommendation.

The nearly 600 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. Through the St. Paul District Fiscal Year 2015 $100 million budget, nearly 1,600 non-Corps jobs were added to the regional economy as well as $155 million to the national economy.
