Jan. 31--The deadline to sign up for individual health insurance is midnight Tuesday, and Connecticut officials want people to know the coverage available has not changed.
"I know there's a lot of confusion out there, but the truth is, we're still enrolling people," Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman said Monday morning. "If you purchase health care now, you will have it for the year. Subsidies are still available."
Typically, there is a rush to enroll the last two weeks of open enrollment, but this year, with a movement by President Trump and Congress to repeal Obamacare, that surge wasn't materializing.
As a result, Access Health CT CEO Jim Wadleigh was projecting that enrollment would be about 5,000 fewer than last February, when there were about 115,000 signed up for coverage.
Wadleigh said Monday morning that word might be getting out. While only 40 people signed up Sunday, Monday morning, hundreds phoned in to the call center.
The call center is open until 6 p.m. Monday, and from 8 a.m. to midnight Tuesday. The walk-in centers in New Britain and New Haven are open until 5 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to midnight Tuesday.
"Our help is free," Wadleigh said.
Those who call, visit or go online to accesshealthct.com will have coverage that starts March 1, as long as they send in their premiums. If your income is low enough, free coverage could begin sooner through Husky.
