North Carolina Woman Wins $1 Million In Lottery Scratch-Off Game
Dec. 8--A Fayetteville woman will have some extra cash to do her Christmas shopping after winning $1 million playing the North Carolina Education Lottery.
Catrina Hanton purchased the $10 Bankroll ticket at the Short Stop on Gillispie Street, the North Carolina Education Lottery said in a news release Monday. The game is one of the new scratch-off games and the top prize is $1 million.
"It feels great," Hanton said in the release. "I'm shocked, very shocked."
Hanton claimed her prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. She had the choice of taking the $1 million as an annuity of 20 payments of $50,000 a year or a lump sum of $600,000. She chose the lump sum and took home $424,503 after required state and federal tax withholdings, the release said.
"I just plan to help my family out," Hanton said of her plans for the money.
Hanton is the first top winner in the Bankroll game.
