New Critical Illness Findings from Zhongnan University of Economics & Law Described (Supplementary Health Insurance and Income: Evidence From Critical Illness Insurance In China): Disease Attributes – Critical Illness

Insurance Daily News

2026 JUN 25 (NewsRx) -- By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Insurance Daily News -- Investigators publish new report on Disease Attributes - Critical Illness. According to news originating from Wuhan, People’s Republic of China, by NewsRx correspondents, research stated, “This paper investigates how the implementation of public supplementary health insurance affects economic well-being in China. By combining manually collected policy data and nationally representative household survey data, exploiting the county-by-county roll-out of China’s major public supplementary health insurance (Critical Illness Insurance), and utilizing the staggered difference-in-differences method, we provide evidence for the pivotal role of public supplementary health insurance in improving population income.”

Funders for this research include National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), National Office of Philosophy and Social Sciences, Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Ministry of Education, China - 111 Project.

Our news journalists obtained a quote from the research from the Zhongnan University of Economics & Law, “The vulnerable groups (those who are older, with rural hukou, and with chronic illnesses) benefit more from the insurance implementation. Further analyses reveal that improved health, subjective well-being, and work performance are important pathways.”

According to the news editors, the research concluded: “Our research provides new insights into the full benefits of the implementation of public supplementary health insurance, and our findings have direct relevance to health and income policies.”

This research has been peer-reviewed.
