RESURFACED AUDIO: MIKE ROGERS SAYS HE WANTS TO KICK SICK PATIENTS OFF HEALTHCARE, SUPPORTS NEW COPAYS – MICHIGAN DEMOCRATIC PARTY

States News Service

The following information was released by the Michigan Democratic Party:

Reminder: Rogers' leaked healthcare plan would force Michiganders to pay higher healthcare costs while boosting his insurance industry donors' profits

LANSING Price Hike Mike is under fire for resurfaced audio of him saying his healthcare plan would kick "the sickest part of our society" off their health insurance plans and force Michiganders to "pay the doctor $50" in new out-of-pocket costs for basic healthcare services.

As previously reported by Bridge Michigan, The Detroit Free Press, and The Bulwark, Rogers' remarks reveal he supports "returning to high-risk pool policies," which would kick patients with pre-existing conditions off their current healthcare plans and "effectively restrict access to health care," and that Rogers "likes the idea of letting insurers charge copays for routine cancer screenings and some other forms of preventive carewhich, under current law, the insurers cannot do." Rogers' campaigns and political committees have received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the insurance industry, and while he was in Congress, Rogers repeatedly voted to boost his donors' profits and spike Michiganders' monthly healthcare premiums.

MIKE ROGERS: "I would do one other thing sorry, you got me on my soap box. The sickest part of our society ends up consuming the most, so what we ought to do is have these 'catastrophic funds.' So we're going to pay our premium based on what a normal life would be, not including these people who are really, really sick. We take the really sick people and put them in this fund." [Mike Rogers campaign event, 3/21/26]

MIKE ROGERS: "Imagine a healthcare planor an auto insurance plan that would pay for your blinkers lights going out, right? We need to start changing the way we look at healthcare. You know, if you go up and have to pay the doctor $50 for your annual physical, that's probably okay, right? Honestly. You think about it?" [Mike Rogers campaign event, 3/21/26]
