Corebridge Financial Introduces Progressive Trigger, a First-of-Its-Kind Index Annuity Strategy Designed to Turn Missed Years into Future Opportunity
New strategy preserves growth potential during periods of negative performance, allowing multiple years to contribute to an interest credit when markets recover
- Progressive Trigger’s built-in Memory feature carries forward eligible interest percentages following negative index performance
- The strategy maintains the same starting index value for up to five years, providing annual opportunities to meet or exceed that value
- If the trigger condition is met, the current year’s percentage is added to the eligible percentages retained in Memory to determine the interest credit
Progressive Trigger’s built-in Memory feature is designed for this possibility, allowing eligible interest percentages to accumulate following periods of negative index performance. If the trigger condition is met later in the strategy’s five-year term, the percentages retained in Memory are combined with the current year’s percentage to determine the interest credit.
“Protection from market downturns has always been one of the defining benefits of index annuities,” said
Progressive Trigger is available exclusively through the Power Select Builder® index annuity, which is distributed by
With the traditional trigger option, a declared rate is credited when index performance is flat or positive over a single year. Whether or not the trigger condition is met, the starting index value resets at each contract anniversary.
Progressive Trigger instead establishes a starting index value that remains in place for up to five years. The index is evaluated once a year, providing annual opportunities to meet or exceed that value. If the index is below its starting value, no index interest is credited for that year, but an eligible percentage is retained in Memory. If the index meets or exceeds the starting value at a contract anniversary, the current year’s percentage is added to the eligible percentages retained in Memory to determine the interest credit. The customer can then allow a new five-year term to begin or choose to reallocate their funds.1
“We are proud to work with Corebridge to bring continued innovation to financial professionals and their clients,” said
An index annuity is a long-term insurance product that offers the potential for interest to be credited based in part on the performance of the specified index, while protecting premium from losses caused by market downturns or fluctuations. Guarantees are backed by the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurance company.
1 If the trigger condition is never met during the five-year term, the principal remains protected from market losses, but no interest is credited and the percentages retained in Memory expire.
