Informational meetings planned

Prestige Assisted Living in Marysville is presenting informational meetings this week during National Assisted Living Week.

This year's theme is "Keep Connected," recognizing how technology can enhance assisted living communities.

Senior Center sets workshops

Free workshops on the flu, healthy aging and Medicare are among this month's activities at the Yuba City Senior Center at 777 Ainsley Ave.

A flu vaccination clinic is part of the flu workshop at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

"Healthy Aging for Seniors over Age 65" is at 11:15 a.m. Thursday.

"Welcome to Medicare" is at 10 a.m. Sept. 29, presented by the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program, or HICAP.

An evening dance -- 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Friday, with a fee of $6 and a snack to share.

Association to discuss meetings

Future chapter meetings and locations will be discussed during the next meeting of Chapter 60 of the Retired Public Employees Association.

Rummage sale is fundraiser

Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Colusa is having its annual rummage sale Saturday at the Scout Cabin in Will S. Green Park. The fundraiser is from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at 901 Parkhill St., Colusa. A portion of the proceeds will benefit local charities.

Annual Car Show is Saturday

Awards, a pancake breakfast and barbecue lunch are featured at the seventh Annual Car Show at the Yuba County Charter School Automotive Academy.

The event is from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at 1104 E St. in Marysville.

An annual garage sale hosted by P.E.O., Chapter LS Yuba City, is from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at 1595 Teesdale Court in Yuba City.

P.E.O. is a philanthropic educational organization. Funds raised go to education loans and grants for women.

Soccer tournament part of Independence Day Festival

A soccer tournament is part of the Mexican Independence Day Festival in Williams, hosted by the Spanish/English Committee of Williams, or SPENCOW.

The festival starts at noon Sept. 18 at Venice Park, behind the Sacramento Valley Museum, at 1491 E St.

The Grito de Independencia is at about 5 p.m.

Many varieties at Garden Club fundraiser

The Sutter Buttes Garden Club is featuring nine varieties of tulip bulbs and five varieties of daffodil bulbs for sale through Oct. 10 in a fundraiser to benefit its scholarship fund and community beautification efforts.

Lioness Club plans Community Breakfast

The monthly Community Breakfast in Loma Rica hosted by the Loma Rica Lioness Club is set from 8 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Sept. 18 at the Foothill Lions Community Center, 5667 Fruitland Road, Loma Rica.

Costs start at $3.50 per child and up to $5.50 for adults, with an additional fee for extras.

The menu includes eggs cooked to order, a choice of meat and a beverage.

City Council candidates to appear at debate

The first in a series of 2016 general election candidate debates presented by the Sutter Buttes Tea Party Patriots is set, featuring candidates for Yuba City City Council.

The program is during the group's meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Church of Glad Tidings, 1179 Eager Road, Yuba City.

Candidates include Manny Cardoza, Fotine HalikasKopriva, Shon Harris, Wade Kirchner, Jason Rikard and Dena Walker.

Participating candidates each have two minutes to present their qualifications and campaigns.

Class of 1950 having reunion

Members of the Marysville High School class of 1950 are having a 66-year reunion luncheon at 11 a.m. Oct. 7 at the Dragon Inn in Marysville.

Class of 1950 classmates have met for lunch the first Friday of October every year since their 60th-year reunion.

Lions Club hosting Talent Search

Auditions and semi-finals are scheduled for the Tri-Counties Talent Search highlighting local singers age 12 and up, presented by the Linda Lions Club.

There is no entry fee.

Auditions are Sept. 24 and semi-finals are Oct. 1, both from 1 p.m.-5 p.m., at Friday Night Live, 301 Fourth St., Marysville. Admission for the audience is $2 per person.

The grand finale is from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Yuba Gardens Intermediate School gymnasium, 1964 11th Ave., Olivehurst.

Audience admission is $5 per person.

Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place.

Register for 12-week Constitution class

Registration is underway for a 12-week course on the Constitution, presented by the Constitution Northern California Chapter and the Sutter Buttes Tea Party Patriots.

The classes include videos and group discussion with the biblical worldview of America's founders.

The weekly classes are from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursdays starting Sept. 22 at the Church of Glad Tidings, 1179 Eager Road, Yuba City.

Admission is free, but a $45 course manual is required.

Buy tickets to high school Hall of Fame Dinner

Tickets are available for the first Marysville High School Hall of Fame Dinner honoring local residents in several categories.

The inaugural dinner is Oct. 22 at the Allyn Scott Youth and Community Center, 1830 B St., Marysville.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with no-host cocktails, dinner at 7 p.m. and the ceremony at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $50 per person. Reservations are due by Oct. 14.
