Health Partners Plans Selected to Serve Medicaid Beneficiaries in Pennsylvania’s Southeast and Lehigh/Capital Zones

Award More than Triples HPP’s Service Area to Residents in 18 PA Counties

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Nationally recognized for its innovative approach to health care, Pennsylvania-based managed care organization Health Partners Plans (HPP) announced today that the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) has chosen to contract with HPP to provide coverage to Medicaid beneficiaries living in the state’s Southeast and Lehigh/Capital Zones. The award will expand HPP’s reach from Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties in the Southeast Zone to an additional 13 counties in the Lehigh/Capital Zone, more than tripling the size of its service area.

The Lehigh/Capital Zone includes approximately 484,000 Medicaid beneficiaries in Adams, Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Northampton, Perry and York counties. Pending regulatory approval and successful completion of a readiness review, the three-year HealthChoices agreement is expected to begin in June 2017.

“Expanding our best-in-class Medicaid services to the Lehigh/Capital Zone heralds a new era for our organization,” said William S. George, president and CEO. “For more than 30 years, we have remained firmly committed to improving the health outcomes of our members in the Greater Philadelphia region. From increasing staff and expanding leadership, to building a robust network of providers and hospitals, to educating and preparing employees for the increased membership, HPP is well-equipped to extend its award-winning, nationally-recognized plan to the Lehigh/Capital region of the Commonwealth.”

DHS made its selection based on managed care organizations that were not only high performing, but also equipped to provide innovative, value-based programs with positive health outcomes for its members.

HPP is the top-rated Medicaid plan for preventive care in Pennsylvania, receiving 4.5 out of 5 according to the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) Medicaid Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2016–2017.
