Governor seeks disaster declaration for Hancock, 57 counties
Messenger-Inquirer (Owensboro, KY)
April 10-- Apr. 10--Gov. Matt Bevin has asked President Donald Trump to declare 58 Kentucky counties -- including Hancock -- disaster areas.
A news release said the counties saw "extended episodes" of strong winds and torrential rain in late February and early March, that caused flooding, flash flooding, landslides and mudslides.
More than $41 million in damages were recorded in those counties -- most of it related to highways, bridges and utilities.
Three people were killed by the storms.
Bevin said in the news release that the disaster declaration will provide those counties with federal assistance to help in recovery.
The news release said that Kentucky has received federal assistance for 19 disasters in the past decade.
