Copperheads set to host All-Star Camp

June 08--The Asheboro Copperheads will be hosting their annual All-Star Camp June 17-19 at McCrary Park. Under the direction of Asheboro Copperheads coach Keith Ritsche and his staff and players, the camp will be held from 8 a.m. until noon each day.

The cost is $75 and all participants will receive a T-shirt and free general admission tickets to the Coastal Plain League game against Gastonia on Thursday, June 19. Participants will be recognized on the field between innings of that game.

Concessions will be available.

SWR softball camp

June 17-19

The Southwestern Randolph Cougar Softball Camp is June 17-19 at Southwestern Randolph High School.

Registration is 5:30-6 p.m. each day with camp running from 6-8 p.m. each day.

The cost is $30 per day or $60 for all three days.

Forms are available in the SWRHS office or at the Sports Attic in Asheboro.

THS wrestling camp

June 23-25

Trinity High School is hosting a wrestling camp June 23-25 at the THS gym from 5:30-8:30 p.m. each day.

The camp coaches are Kyle Spencer (head coach at Glenn High School), Clayton Trivett (head coach at THS), Joe Vetell (assistant coach at THS) and John Anders (assistant coach at GHS).

The purpose of the camp is to promote the sport in the community and better the kids skills in wrestling.

The camp is for kids ages 5-18.

The cost is $40, which includes a T-shirt. Insurance will be provided for the campers by Archdale Insurance Planning.

AHS basketball camp

June 17-19

The Asheboro Next Level Basketball Camp will be held June 17-19 at Asheboro High School.

The basketball camp is open to all students in Randolph County ages 9-15. The camp will be held from 9 a.m. until noon each day. The cost is $40. There will be a bag lunch provided after each day.

SWR basketball camp

June 16-18

The Southwestern Randolph Learn to Play -- Play to Learn Cougars Basketball Camp will be held June 16-18 at Southwestern Randolph High School.

The camp is open to boys and girls in grade 3 through grade 8. SWR basketball coaches Paula LaPlant and Matt Kiser along with varsity players will teach basketball skills and fundamentals. The cost is $50 and each participant will receive a T-shirt. Checks should be made out to Southwestern Randolph High School.

There will be three two-hour sessions and each session will be divided into two parts: one hour of skills and one hour of interleague games. Participants will be divided into two divisions. Rising 3rd-5th graders will comprise the younger division and rising 6th-8th graders will comprise the older division. Multi-age teams will be fielded within each division and will play against each other during the second hour of each session.

The camp for the younger division will be held from 5-7 p.m. and the older division will be from 7:15-9:15 p.m.

Lady Phoenix tryouts

set for June 19

The Lady Phoenix AAU girls are holding basketball tryouts on June 19 beginning at 6:30. Tryouts will be for rising 5th and 6th grade girls only and will be located in Asheboro. Contact Rocky Brundage at (336) 406-4314 for additional information and tryout locations.

Randolph Baseball Camp June 16-20

The Randolph Baseball Camp, one of the longest running youth camps in the area, will be held June 16-20 at Kiwanis Park.

Under the direction of Eric Hall, the camp is in its 25th year. The camp will be held from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. each day. Each day will consist of instruction on hitting, pitching, fielding, bunting and baserunning. Games will be played every day.

Concessions will be sold and there will be an awards ceremony on the final day of camp. The cost is $75 per camper and checks should be made out to Eric Hall. Each camper will receive a T-shirt.

Post 45 games

Randolph County Post 45's games against Taylorsville, slated for Tuesday at McCrary Park and June 18 on the road, have been cancelled.

Post 45 hosts Western Forsyth tonight at 7 p.m. at McCrary Park.

Post 45 17-under wins

in bottom of seventh

ASHEBORO -- Clay Richardson scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh as Randolph County Post 45's 17-and-under American Legion baseball team topped Montgomery County 2-1 Saturday at McCrary Park.

Richardson drew a walk, was sacrificed to second on a Trenton Dickinson bunt, took third on the throw and then scored on an errant throw to third.

Gavin Watts notched two hits and an RBI for Post 45.

Cam Reid pitched three shutout innings of relief for the win, while starter Josh Lemon pitched four innings.

Post 45 (8-2) travels to Randleman on Wednesday.
