Church Mutual Expands Successful CM Sensor™ Program

Business Wire

MERRILL, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Church Mutual Insurance Company is expanding its already successful CM Sensor™ program by providing policyholders with a new Wi-Fi enabled temperature and water sensor kit. The new kit compliments the company’s existing cellular sensor solutions and allows policyholders with smaller buildings to enjoy the same benefits as those with larger properties.

“We understand the unique operations of our policyholders and the challenges they face with facilities that may only be in use a few days a week,” said Guy Russ, assistant vice president – Risk Control. “Having remotely monitored sensors in place to detect drops in temperature and the presence of water can make all the difference to these ministries.”

Since the CM Sensor program launched in 2016, Church Mutual has enrolled almost 7,000 policyholders in the program. The program’s text, email and phone alerts have helped prevent approximately $10 million in weather- and water-related damages as well as countless hours of downtime and disruption to the organizations themselves.

Mazeppa United Methodist Church in southeastern Minnesota is one of many policyholders whose facility was saved by the sensors. With a small congregation, the church is only occupied on Sundays. On a Monday evening in January, the treasurer received a low temperature alert on his cell phone. This innovative technology solution is designed to alert customers like Mazeppa United Methodist Church to take action before damage and disruption to their ministries can occur, and that’s exactly what it did.

“When I got there, the thermostat read 38 degrees and the furnace wasn’t running,” recalled Doug Hanson, who currently serves as treasurer. “Without the sensor alert, we would have had frozen pipes and water damage by Tuesday morning. Since we don’t have someone on-site during the week, we might not have caught it until the next Sunday.”

Church Mutual is dedicated to finding innovative solutions that will benefit the unique needs of its policyholders. The development and now expansion of the CM Sensor program illustrates the organization’s commitment to protect and serve those who are serving others.
