Cardiogram Launches Insurance Program for Wearable Technology Users

PR Web

SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) September 27, 2018

Health app developer Cardiogram today announced that it has partnered with Amica Life Insurance Company (Amica Life) and the recently established Greenhouse Life Insurance Company (Greenhouse Insurance) to offer Accidental Death (AD) insurance coverage for wearable technology users. The program offers Apple Watch, Android Wear, or Garmin wearers the opportunity to qualify for $1,000 of AD coverage at no cost for 12 months. Qualified Cardiogram users will also have the option to purchase up to $500,000 of additional AD insurance coverage through the app in as little as three minutes.

"Aside from you and your loved ones, nobody wants you to be healthier than your health or life insurer. At Amica Life, we are excited about pioneering new digital methods to engage people and meet their needs," said Shiela Companie, vice president and chief life actuary at Amica Life.

"Ultimately, life insurers save dollars by saving lives," said Brandon Ballinger, co-founder of Cardiogram. In multiple clinical studies, Cardiogram has validated the accuracy of its artificial intelligence-based algorithm, DeepHeart, to detect multiple chronic conditions – including hypertension, sleep apnea, diabetes and atrial fibrillation – using the heart rate sensor on consumer wearables. "This launch is a step toward using wearables to improve health. One of the first challenges we faced was to distill the complex world of life insurance into a simple set of screens that ordinary people can understand on their phones."

In order to explain insurance to a new, digital-native audience, Cardiogram, Amica Life and Greenhouse Insurance built and iteratively tested a mobile experience that shows how AD insurance works.

"We think wearables can fundamentally transform the way insurance is distributed and underwritten," said Farron Blanc, president of Greenhouse Insurance and vice president, RGAX. "More importantly, these tools may help people stay healthier longer."

The new offer for accidental death insurance is available to Cardiogram app users on both iPhone and Android devices in selected states, and is compatible with multiple wearables, including Apple Watch (Series 0, Series 1, Series 2, Series 3); Google's WearOS platform (including Huawei Watch, LG Watch Sport, LG Watch Urbane, Moto 360, New Balance RunIQ, Polar M600, Misfit Vapor, and Mobvoi Ticwatch S&E); and Garmin Forerunner, Fenix, and Vivoactive series.

About Cardiogram
Cardiogram transforms ordinary consumer wearables with heart rate sensors--like Apple Watch, Garmin, or WearOS--into a personal healthcare companion. In a sequence of clinical studies with more than 14,000 participants, Cardiogram has validated accuracy of an artificial intelligence-based algorithm, DeepHeart, to accurately detect multiple major health conditions, including hypertension, sleep apnea, diabetes, and atrial fibrillation (https://cardiogr.am/research). Cardiogram was launched in 2016 by ex-Google tech leads Johnson Hsieh and Brandon Ballinger, was named the best iPhone app of 2016 by iMore, and has shown user engagement and retention 5x higher than the first five ResearchKit apps, exceeding even Instagram and Twitter (http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/136/Suppl_1/A21029).
