Mar. 26—An insurance producer for the Baton Rouge Police Union has been arrested for theft and fraudulent activity involving thousands of dollars due to the union, Louisiana State Police said in a news release Tuesday night.
State Police began an investigation in November 2022 about allegations of theft and insurance fraud by Albert Frederick Peterson, 66, of Baton Rouge, for insurance products provided to the police union, the release said.
The investigation revealed Peterson fraudulently obtained and misappropriated more than $30,000 in premium and insurance refunds due to union members on 26 separate occasions between May 2019 and May 2021, the release said.
An arrest warrant for Peterson was issued on March 6. State Police arrested him on March 18, and he was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on accusations of insurance fraud and theft.
The Louisiana Department of Insurance and the U.S. Department of Labor assisted in the investigation.
