Jan. 27--The owner of a house badly damaged by fire Saturday afternoon in the Glen Reilly subdivision said he believes the blaze may have started from a motorcycle parked outside.
No one was injured in the fire, which officials said started around 1 p.m.
John Jones, who identified himself as the owner of the house in the 6900 block of Melbourne Drive, said he lived there with his 10-year-old son Zelijah.
Jones said he went outside and started his motorcycle and went back inside his house.
"I came out and there were flames," Jones said. "I don't know if it was a leak in the bike or what."
Kevin Dove, a battalion chief with the Fayetteville Fire Department, said the fire appeared to be accidental but was still under investigation. He said five engines, two ladder trucks and four squad cars responded to the fire. He said it took at least an hour to contain.
Some flames jumped to the next-door house, but they were extinguished.
Jones said he has insurance. He said he and his son would be staying at a motel until they can move back home.
