Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Gets New Contract that Enhances Its Medicaid Services Across All of Kentucky

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kentucky recently was awarded a new contract by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services to continue serving members who participate in the commonwealth's Medicaid managed care program.

According to a media release, this new contract also expands Anthem's services to eligible Medicaid beneficiaries who live in Region 3, which consists of Louisville and 15 surrounding counties. Anthem is one of five incumbents to be awarded a new contract and the only health plan that will expand its service area as a result of its award.

"Anthem is pleased that we have been chosen to continue serving our current Medicaid members, and we are honored that we have been entrusted to expand our services to all eligible Medicaid beneficiaries in every county across Kentucky," said Cecelia Manlove, president of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Kentucky Medicaid. "We have made tremendous progress since we started serving the Kentucky Medicaid managed care program in 2014, and we welcome new program efficiencies that are going to help us better collaborate with our program regulators and provider partners to achieve key health goals and improve lives in Kentucky."

Anthem's new contract became effective July 1, and enables the health plan to continue coordinating medical, behavioral, dental and vision health benefits for members who participate in Kentucky's various Medicaid programs, including the commonwealth's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), State Children's Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP) and Aged, Blind and Disabled (ABD) programs. Anthem also serves adult Kentuckians who are eligible to receive Medicaid Expansion benefits.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield serves more than 71,000 Medicaid beneficiaries in Kentucky.
