The Insurance Wars, The Industry’s Newest MUST READ Book

Maximizing your agency profitability and providing quality over quantity coverage.

In the newly released book, The Insurance Wars, Chuck Tompkins, CEO of one of the largest Independent Insurance Agencies in the Upper Midwest, Western Agency, Inc. tells the story of how he built his agency from scratch to one of the largest agencies in the upper Midwest; at the same time producing a revenue per employee of over $100,000.

The Insurance Wars, most likely the ONLY book of its kind on the market, is a first person account of the trials and tribulations Tompkins went through to become one of the most well known, successful independent agents in the Upper Midwest.  The Insurance Wars preaches that a personal relationship with your agent is a far more valuable long term asset, than a simple savings of $10 a month.  And, that FACE time with your client is becoming more important, not less important, nowadays.

The Insurance Wars is mostly an autobiography, though it reads as a “How to” Book for Any Independent Insurance Agent or Entrepreneur.  With detailed accounts of how the insurance business works, and the humorous stories of “how Chuck learned the hard way,” Tompkins’ “tongue-in-cheek” approach leaves the reader with a sense of his sincerity and humility.  The book very precisely covers the details of how Bootstrapping a small business,

In Tompkins’ own words, at the most recent Insurance Convention in North Dakota, “The reason I wrote this book was there is simply nothing like it available.  If I could have read a book like this (The Insurance Wars ) early in my career, it would have been invaluable to me, so I’m hoping I can pass some of this knowledge on.”   Tompkins plans to attend as many conventions as possible this year, across the country promoting his book and to share his stories with his peers.

Tompkins was nominated for PIA National Agent of the Year in 1997 and was North Dakota PIA Agent of the Year in 1996.  He started his career in 1973 working for Farm Bureau and in 1976 started his own independent agency, Western Agency, Inc., which now has seven offices, in seven different cities.  Western Agency, Inc. is the largest Independent Agency in North Dakota specializing in farms and now insures over 867 individual farms around the state.  Chuck and his wife Linda live on a farm southeast of Minot and have four grandchildren and six grandchildren.
