Symetra Enhances Group Life and Disability Income Insurance Value-Add Programs with HealthChampion(?)

Business Wire, Inc.

BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Symetra Life Insurance Company today announced the addition of HealthChampion(?) to its suite of value-add programs for group life and disability income (DI) insurance clients. Provided by ComPsych®, the new support program encourages employees on a covered disability leave to become educated, engaged consumers when it comes to their healthcare plan.

“The HealthChampion program helps ensure that employees receive the education, guidance and support they need to make the best use of their healthcare plan,” said Tom Foran, Symetra vice president of Group Life and Disability Income Insurance. “Like all of our value-add programs, the HealthChampion program complements the insurance benefits provided under each policy and strengthens our goal of getting people to a better place.”

The HealthChampion program provides confidential support 24 hours a day from experienced clinical and administrative professionals to covered employees without additional cost to them. These healthcare navigation specialists provide covered individuals with information on medical care and provider options, guidance on health insurance claims and billing issues, and information on how to become better healthcare consumers. Specialists support employees through a broad range of healthcare-related concerns:

Administrative Support

  • Easy-to-understand explanation of benefits — what’s covered and what’s not
  • Step-by-step guidance on medical claims and billing issues
  • Cost estimation for covered and non-covered treatment options
  • Fee and payment plan negotiation
  • Referral to financial resources for the under- and uninsured
  • Explanation of the appeals process

Clinical Support

  • One-on-one reviews of employee health concerns
  • Straightforward answers regarding specific diagnosis and treatment options
  • Preparation for upcoming doctor’s visits, lab work, tests and surgeries
  • Coordination with appropriate healthcare plan provider(s)
  • Referrals to community resources and applicable support groups

Administrative and clinical HealthChampion specialists also can cross-refer to employee assistance program (EAP) services.

Earlier this year, Symetra introduced three other value-add programs — travel assistance, identity theft resolution and beneficiary companion. For more information about the HealthChampion program or other Symetra Group Life and Disability value-add programs, visit http://www.symetra.com/EmployeeBenefits.
