HONOLULU, Oct. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Martin J. Welch was named Chief Executive Officer & Senior Underwriting Executive at Hawaii Employers' Mutual Insurance Company's October 2 Board of Directors meeting. The hiring concludes a long and carefully executed succession process. Welch was also named President of HEMIC Insurance Managers, Inc., a HEMIC subsidiary.
Barry Taniguchi, HEMIC Chairman stated, "HEMIC has had an extraordinarily successful first fifteen years. The Board's goal was to assure that the next fifteen years is at least as successful. We are convinced that Marty will make that happen." "We considered an array of well qualified candidates," added retiring CEO Bob Dove, "but Marty stood out. I look forward to working with him as I move into HEMIC governance and consulting."
Mr. Welch brings over 30 years of Workers Compensation and Commercial Property & Casualty industry experience to his position. Marty most recently served as President and Chief Operating Officer for Employers Holdings, Inc., a publicly traded Workers Compensation specialty carrier based in Reno, NV. Prior to Employers, Marty spent 25 years with the former Wausau Insurance organization, serving in various underwriting, marketing, management and executive roles. Marty earned his Undergraduate degree in Finance from the University of Illinois; additional business and professional development certificates from Columbia Business School, Northwestern University and Dartmouth College; and is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter. Marty and his wife Jennifer have three sons.
