Feb. 26--Paul Rotenberry, a family law attorney vying for the Republican nomination for 326th District Court judge, led his two opponents in contributions, according to the latest candidate campaign finance report filings with the Texas Ethics Commission.

In the most crowded local race in Tuesday's GOP primary, Rotenberry listed his contributions at $10,390 received between Jan. 24 and Saturday. Rotenberry had $23,586 in expenditures during the same period.

Including previous reporting periods, state documents indicated Rotenberry's campaign had a balance of $8,213 as of Monday.

Claire Mehaffey, also running for the position, listed contributions at $2,525 and expenditures of $10,630. Her balance was $939.

Another candidate, Mary Ann Fergus, reported $3,475 in contributions and $16,645 in expenditures. Her report listed a zero balance. The three candidates are seeking the position being vacated by Judge Aleta Hacker, who is retiring.

Justice, Place 3, 11th Court of Appeals

Expenditures were running high in the Big Country race for Place 3 iustice on the 11th Court of Appeals between Cade Browning of Abilene and John Bailey of Cisco.

Ethics Commission papers show Bailey with total contributions from Jan. 24-Saturday of $13,362, and expenditures of $101,723.

Browning reported $9,925 in contributions during the period and $57,033 in expenditures.

Gov. Rick Perry appointed Bailey in October to the Place 3 seat following the resignation of Justice Terry McCall.

State Representative

For District 71, incumbent Susan King faces a challenge from Hamlin Mayor Isaac Castro.

According to her latest filing, King had $46,493 in contributions and $114,101 in expenditures. King's total contribution balance as of Monday was $424,511.

Castro had $5,485 in contributions and $10,829 in expenditures. His balance as of Monday was $10,140.

Taylor County races

On the Taylor County political scene, incumbent County Court-at-Law No. 2 Judge Sam Carroll topped the contribution list. According to campaign finance reports filed Monday with the Taylor County Elections Office, Carroll listed contributions at $6,100 and expenditures of $13,930.

Carroll's Republican primary opponent, William "Tim" Ladyman reported $4,875 in contributions and $5,175 in expenditures.

Taylor County Precinct 2 Commissioner Kyle Kendrick, who is seeking re-election, is facing former County Commissioner Dwayne Tucker.

Kendrick reported no contributions and $1,725 in expenditures while Tucker had no contributions and spent $1,689.

Another contested race in the GOP primary is for Precinct 4 Commissioner, with incumbent Chuck Statler reporting $3,585 in contributions and $861 in expenditures; while challenger Ron Harris picked up $2,900 in contributions and spent $906.
