County Board approves bids [Mt. Vernon Register-News, Ill.]

The vote passed 13-2 with Joey McDermott and Curt Grothoff voting against the measure.

Board Chairman Robert White noted the bid from Traveler's was significantly lower than the others, but said that self-insuring during a problem with water damage in several courthouse areas had shown "prudence."

The board approved a bid for employee health insurance from USI -- United Healthcare for $617 per employee per month

The Services Committee had received three other bids for employee health insurance: $624 per employee per month from Bruce Hapeman -- Coventry; $792 per employee per month from Guy Wood -- Health Alliance; and from Guy Wood -- Trustmark Starmark, $737 per employee per month.

Jefferson County Treasurer Dan Knox said because the County Board meeting was earlier than usual this month, he did not have financial information that is usually provided during the meeting.

He did say the County General Corporate Fund held about $154,000 and that he felt the county was in "good shape" to close out the fiscal year.

In other business, the board:

--Acknowledged a nuisance complaint will be resolved in the near future. A home located at 1824 Highland View, which has been reported as unsightly or dilapidated, has been sold to a local property owner, who has plans to demolish the building, White said.
