UPDATE: S.1182 – To extend the National Flood Insurance Program, and for other purposes.

Congressional Documents & Publications

LATEST ACTION: July 26, 2018 - Motion by Senator McConnell to refer to Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs the House message to accompany S. 1182 with instructions to report back forthwith with the following amendment (SA 3630) made in Senate.

BILL TITLE: To extend the National Flood Insurance Program, and for other purposes.

BILL SUMMARY:

American Legion 100th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Act

(Sec. 3) This bill requires the Department of the Treasury to mint and issue gold, silver, and half-dollar clad commemorative coins in recognition and celebration of the 100th anniversary of the American Legion.

(Sec. 5) Treasury may issue coins minted under this bill for only a one-year period, beginning January 1, 2019.

(Sec. 7) All sales of coins minted under this bill shall include a surcharge of $35 per gold coin, $10 per silver coin, and $5 per half-dollar clad coin.

Surcharges received from the sale of these coins shall be paid to the American Legion for costs related to promoting the importance of: (1) caring for those who have served, and those who are still serving, in the Armed Forces; and (2) maintaining patriotic values, strong families, and assistance for at-risk children.

There may not be any surcharge if issuance of the coin would exceed the annual commemorative coin program issuance limitation.

(Sec. 8) Treasury shall ensure that:

-- minting and issuing such coins will not result in any net cost to the federal government; and

-- no funds, including surcharges, will be disbursed until the total cost of designing and issuing all authorized coins is recovered.
