Travis County ESD 6 breaks ground on new Lake Travis Fire Station

Dec. 18--The Travis County Emergency Services District No. 6 broke ground on its newest Lake Travis Fire Rescue fire station Dec. 4, the department's sixth station.

The station is designed to help serve a growing population on Hamilton Pool Road and Texas 71, giving the fire rescue team more emergency resources and adding depth of service to the entire district, officials said. The presence of the station, they said, also could aid in the reduction of insurance premiums for many homeowners.

"The additional station will reduce response times in the area of Hamilton Pool Road and lessen the demand on units in both the city of Bee Cave and the city of Lakeway by improving emergency unit utilization," said Lake Travis Fire Rescue Fire Chief RobertAbbott.

The new station, at 17304 Hamilton Pool Road, is set to open in spring 2019.

The 8,705-square-foot station will dedicate space for a training platform and three apparatus bays. The station also includes living quarters, office space and support spaces for EMS. Future plans also call for a helipad to be built next to the station.

During the planning stages, the district has been able to hire the firefighters needed to man the station around the clock and purchased the necessary equipment so the station will be operational from the moment construction is complete.

The district, which covers 104 square miles, serves 88,000 residents along with thousands of commuting workers and Lake Travis visitors. The department handles approximately 6,000 fire, EMS and rescue calls per year.

The Steiner Ranch Station 605, which opened in 2005, was the last station built by district. The other stations are in Bee Cave, Lakeway, Comanche Trail and Hudson Bend.
