Sens. Blunt, McCaskill Lead Missouri Delegation Letter Supporting Disaster Declaration for Areas Impacted by Storms, Flooding

WASHINGTON, May 25 -- The office of Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., issued the following news release:

Missouri Senators Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill today sent a letter to President Trump supporting Governor Eric Greitens' request for a disaster declaration for 45 Missouri counties impacted by severe storms and historic flooding that occurred between April 28 and May 11. The disaster declaration is a necessary step for these counties to be able to access federal resources for recovery efforts.

"Missourians suffered extensive damages as a result of recent storms and flooding, and they need help as soon as possible," Blunt said. "I urge the president to quickly issue a disaster declaration so we can get families, small businesses, and state and local agencies the federal support they need to expedite recovery efforts. I will continue working with the governor, my congressional colleagues, and the administration to secure any federal resources that are necessary to help communities recover and rebuild."

McCaskill continued, "Families and businesses across Missouri have started the long process of rebuilding after these devastating floods, and disaster resources can go a long way toward supporting that recovery effort. So I'm eager to work with Senator Blunt and our colleagues to make sure that Governor Greitens's request for federal assistance is quickly approved."
