Jun. 8--U.S. 250 just south of Norwalk was closed for about six hours Friday morning following a one-vehicle accident.
A semi was traveling south on U.S. 250 when it went off the right side of the road and into a ditch, taking out a utility pole. The Ohio State Highway Patrol received the call about 3:30 a.m.
Victoria Chase, of Iowa, was trapped in her cab and had to be cut out by Norwalk firefighters using the Jaws of Life, authorities said.
The truck belonged to Dewey Wheeler And Son Transportation, Center Point, Iowa.
Firefighters at the scene reported the injuries were not serious.
After the truck was towed from the scene. Four men from Ohio Edison replaced the pole and re-connected the wires.
Norwalk Fire Chief John Soisson said about 150 to 180 gallons of diesel fuel leaked into the ditch and the Huron County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) was called to the scene.
Pads were put into the ditch to soak up as much of the fuel as possible.
"We're still waiting for a cleanup contractor," Soisson reported Friday afternoon. "These companies are professional and they do this all of the time. The truck driver's insurance company takes care of that.
"From out aspect, our guys got there and got the driver out. We contacted EMA, Ohio Edison about the live wires down and ODOT," the chief added.
The road had been reopened by 10:15 a.m.
