SCHUMER REVEALS: REAL WORLD EXAMPLES, FROM EVERY UPSTATE REGION, OF MASSIVE NEW HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUM SPIKES FACING NEW YORKERS BECAUSE REPUBLICANS REFUSE TO EXTEND VITAL ACA TAX CREDIT

States News Service

The following information was released by New York Senator Charles Schumer:

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer of New York

"Window Shopping" Period for 2026 Health Insurance Just Opened For New Yorkers And Many Getting Walloped With Sticker Shock From Skyrocketing Premiums Caused By GOP Not Extending The ACA Tax Credit Look Here For Examples Region By Region Of New Bills NY Families Face, Up To $1,000+ More Every Single Month For Healthcare

Nearly 80% of Americans, Including 60% Of Republicans, Want Congress To Extend ACA Tax Credits To Lower Healthcare Costs For 24 Million Families Meanwhile, Republicans Refuse To Even Negotiate To Fix Healthcare Crisis

Schumer: New Yorkers Are Paying The Price For Republicans' Inaction On Healthcare

With New York's "window shopping" period for health insurance opening, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer today revealed real-world examples of the shocking new premium spikes New Yorkers are facing because Republicans refuse to even negotiate to extend the expiring Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits. Schumer said these tax credits are essential for nearly 24 million Americans to afford healthcare and demanded Republicans come to the table to address this immediate healthcare crisis and end the shutdown.

Real life examples of what New Yorkers in every corner of the state are seeing when they look at prices for next year compared to last year can be found HERE.

"Families across America are opening up letters and researching the new rates online and are seeing how their premiums will skyrocket if Republicans refuse to act on the healthcare crisis they created by refusing to extend the vital ACA tax credits. Right now, many New Yorkers from Plattsburgh to Pearl River are going online to compare prices for healthcare coverage and seeing their only option is to pay thousands more than they did last year. It is a shock, and many are wondering how the heck they can afford yet another price increase on top of rising food and energy costs," said Senator Schumer. "This is a crisis that will upend the lives of nearly 24 million Americans, but Republicans are MIA the House is not even in session and working. The House is literally on vacation and Trump refuses to even negotiate with Democrats to end the shutdown and address these skyrocketing healthcare costs. Enough is enough, Republicans need to stop hiding and work with Democrats to negotiate a bipartisan budget deal before people get sick and go bankrupt."

As more states open their window shopping periods, more Americans will see new numbers and face the reality of higher insurance premiums for next year. Schumer said seeing these new prices will be a wake-up call for people across America who will gain clarity on how the looming expiration of ACA premium tax credits will affect them.

For months, Schumer has been speaking out about the need for Republicans to work with Democrats to protect Americans from skyrocketing healthcare costs, but Republicans have refused to act. If Republican inaction lets ACA enhanced premium tax credits expire at the end of the year, premiums will more than double for Americans who buy health care through the ACA exchanges. These higher costs will push 4 million people off their health coverage over the next decade, including tens of thousands of New Yorkers. According to KFF, 8 in 10 Americans say they want Congress to extend these tax credits, including nearly 60% of Republicans.

Schumer has been speaking out about the need for Republicans to come to the table and work with Democrats to protect Americans from skyrocketing healthcare costs and reopen the government. Under Schumer's leadership, Senate Democrats have already forced three votes to extend these tax credits, but Senate Republicans have continued to vote against them. Republicans continue to refuse to act to stop these entirely avoidable healthcare cost increases for Americans.
