Sandwich man indicted for alleged embezzlement of $270K

March 26-- Mar. 26--BOSTON -- A Sandwich man who served as the head of a Taunton insurance agency has been indicted in an alleged embezzlement scheme that left client companies uninsured, according to a statement issued Tuesday by the office of state Attorney General Maura Healey.

David Pietro, 63, and his company DGP Miles Insurance Agency, were indicted Monday by a statewide grand jury on five counts each of larceny of more than $250. Pietro will be arraigned at a later date in Bristol Superior Court, the statement says.

Pietro, a licensed insurance broker who served as president and CEO of DPG, allegedly collected insurance premiums from clients, then failed to remit the premium payments to their insurance carriers, the statement says. As a result, his clients had various commercial insurance policies canceled and were left uninsured.

In all, Pietro is alleged to have stolen $270,423.65 in premiums from client companies, according to the statement.
