WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 -- Rep. Debbie Lesko, R-Arizona, issued the following news release:
U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (AZ-08) sent a letter to President Donald J. Trump calling for a Presidential Proclamation to designate November 2020 as National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. Lesko was joined by Representatives Andy Biggs (AZ-05) and Matt Gaetz (FL-01) in sending the letter.
"Millions of Americans rely on hospice and palliative care for medical care, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support during the end of their lives," said Congresswoman Lesko. "It is my hope that President Trump will recognize the considerable contributions of hospice and palliative care to our communities by designating November as National Hospice and Palliative Care Month."
In 1982, President Ronald Reagan signed the Medicare Hospice Benefit into law and now, over 1.5 million Americans are served by hospice annually. In 1978, the United States first recognized November as National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. The most recent recognition was in November 2010.
