WASHINGTON, Oct. 12 -- Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., issued the following statement praising President Trump's executive order on health care:
"Given the Senate's inability to pass health care reform, President Trump is right to take action to bring relief from Obamacare mandates and give consumers more choices.
"Obamacare continues to fail, and in Indiana premiums continue to climb while more than half of Hoosier counties have only one insurance option in the Obamacare exchange.
"The President's executive order gives Americans relief on multiple fronts, allows them to purchase health insurance across state lines and expands their ability to purchase cheaper plans.
"This executive order does not absolve Congress of its responsibility to legislate, and congressional efforts to reform our health care system must continue."

Background:
The Trump Administration today announced an executive order that would give consumers more options for health care coverage. The order would make it easier for individuals to form associations and purchase health insurance as a group, which would ultimately lower premiums. The order also would allow Americans to purchase the best insurance plan for them, including across state lines. Under the executive order, individuals would no longer be limited to plans that meet the one-size-fits-all regulations found under Obamacare. These Obamacare mandates have increased premiums and reduced options in the individual insurance market for too long.
