President Approves Major Disaster Declaration For Louisiana
WASHINGTON, Oct. 16 -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency issued the following news release:
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of Louisiana to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by Tropical Storm Harvey from August 27 to September 10, 2017.
Federal funding is available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by Tropical Storm Harvey in Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Natchitoches, Red River, Sabine, St. Charles, and Vernon parishes.
Federal funding is also available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work in Acadia, Assumption, De Soto, Iberia, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lafourche, Plaquemines, Rapides, St. Mary, and Vermillion parishes.
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.
William J. Doran III has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. Doran said additional designations may be made at a later date if warranted by the results of damage assessments.
