Someone with an appreciation for bowling has stolen balls and other items related to that sport with a total value of $1,353, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports.
The crime occurred on the afternoon of July 19 at the residence of Craig Lukens on Linville Road, listed as the victim of the theft.
Items stolen were in Lukens' 2017 Nissan Frontier pickup, including four bowling balls of the brand names Outer Limits, Envy Tour, Venom Shock and Reality Check; a Case Club bowling ball carrying case; shoes; and a brace.
Craig Warren Chipman, 59, of 1383 Sandy Ridge Road, Cana, Virginia, was charged with driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving, no operator's license and no liability insurance as the result of a July 19 traffic stop at the Goodwill store on Rockford Street.
Chipman was held in the Surry County Jail under a $3,500 secured bond and slated for an appearance in District Court next Monday.
A recent theft at a local car wash resulted in the loss of a wallet, credit/debit cards and a driver's license.
The incident involved Juan David Luna of Surry Avenue leaving his brown-colored wallet at South Street Sudz on North South Street, which an unknown suspect later stole along with its contents.
A North Carolina license plate, number 9J2703, was stolen recently from a vehicle owned by Kyler Steven Cheek of Winchester Drive in Ararat, Virginia, while at the 13 Bones restaurant on South Andy Griffith Parkway.
