Mercury Insurance Names Its 10 Most Affordable 2018 Vehicles to Insure

PR Web

LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) July 02, 2018

Consumer taste in vehicles has shifted, and more drivers today are buying crossovers and SUVs in place of passenger cars, despite their higher price tag. Shopping for a new crossover or SUV doesn't necessarily mean breaking the bank, however – some vehicles will even save car shoppers money on their auto insurance, as shown on the most recent Mercury Insurance (NYSE: MCY) top-10 list.

Mercury's research and development team recently examined the top 100-make/model combinations for the 2018 model year to compile a list of the least expensive new vehicles to insure. The list was created based on Mercury's price for full coverage** – liability, comprehensive and collision – in California.

Four of the top six spots are held by crossovers and SUVs. Here is the complete top-10 list, beginning with the cheapest 2018 vehicle to insure.

1. Honda Fit
2. Ford Fiesta
3. Honda CR-V
4. Honda Pilot
5. MINI Countryman
6. Ford Edge
7. Mazda3
8. Hyundai Elantra
9. Toyota Sienna
10. Nissan Versa

"There are a number of reasons why these vehicles cost less to insure: they are typically involved in fewer car collisions; and if they are in a car collision, the cost to repair them is lower than other vehicles," said Chong Gao, private passenger auto R&D manager for Mercury Insurance. "Mercury put together this list to help savvy vehicle shoppers know where savings can be found, as the average cost to insure any of these vehicles is 10 percent cheaper than the average of all other cars and trucks Mercury insures."

** Other factors, such as a driver's experience and accident history, can push the rate up or down, but were not included in the rate calculations.
