A.M. Best Offers Free Digital Edition of the July 2018 Issue of Best’s Review; Profiles of Insurance Industry Chief Executive Officers Examined

OLDWICK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- A.M. Best is offering a free, shareable digital edition of the July 2018 issue of Best’s Review. In this issue, Best’s Review presents its annual Leaders coverage, including ranking of the top global insurance brokers as well as top insurers based on A.M. Best data.

Kicking off the Leaders section is a look at the insurance industry’s chief executive officers (CEO). In CEO in Transition, Best’s Review examines the biographical information of the men and women who head the top 20 property/casualty companies, top 20 life/health companies and top 10 global brokers to discover the profile of the insurance CEO today and the types of candidates being hired.

On the surface, the profile of the insurance leader is unsurprising. Of the CEOs analyzed, 96% were men, 94% were white and most were in their late 50s. A deeper dive into the statistics and hiring trends shows an industry in transformation.

Nearly 25% of the insurance CEOs reviewed were appointed in the last two years, and more than a third were hired within the last three. Both of the female CEOs in the pool were appointed in the last two years.

“As industry CEOs retire, boards are under pressure to find candidates who can lead their organizations through the next round of transformative change, but who also bring a wealth of experience and a steady hand,” said Patricia Vowinkel, executive editor, Best’s Review. “A decade ago, boards might have been willing to take a chance on someone under 50. That’s less likely today.”

In addition to the Top Global Insurance Brokers ranking, the July issue also includes seven exclusive rankings based on A.M. Best data, such as the Top 200 U.S. P/C Writers and Top 200 U.S. Life/Health Insurers. Insurers that have maintained a Best’s Financial Strength Rating of A or higher for 50 and 75 consecutive years are also highlighted.
