‘McBee Dynasty’ dad Steve McBee Sr. out of prison, home with family in Missouri

Steve McBee Sr., patriarch of the Missouri family that stars in the Bravo reality series “The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys,” has been released from prison after serving less than a year for crop insurance fraud.

McBee’s son and namesake, Steven McBee Jr., shared an Instagram Stories video Friday of his dad hanging out with the family at home in Gallatin, a northwest Missouri town about 70 miles from Kansas City. The caption read: “Life is good.”

On Saturday, Bravo announced on its website that McBee was released from federal prison in South Dakota on Friday. He served less than a year of a two-year sentence.

Fans of the show began posting “Welcome home, Steve” messages on social media.

McBee Sr. pleaded guilty to one count of federal crop insurance fraud in 2024 in U.S. District Court in Kansas City.

In a plea agreement he admitted to receiving federal crop insurance benefits he was not entitled to and was ordered to pay a total of $7.2 million to the federal government as part of his sentence.

He was ordered to pay back about $3.2 million, the total amount of federal crop insurance benefits and subsidies he fraudulently received, according to prosecutors, and to pay about $4 million more in restitution to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency, which provides crop insurance for farmers.

He was also sentenced to 24 months in prison in October 2025. He surrendered himself to the federal prison in Yankton, South Dakota in December.

In July, Steven revealed his father would be back home in Missouri in time for the holidays. “He’s doing great. He’s ready to get home, ready to see the grandbabies and ready to cook us some dinners,” he told Page Six’s “Virtual Reali-Tea.”

While the family patriarch served time, Season 3 of the reality show followed his four sons — Steven, Jesse, Cole, and Brayden — as they tried to survive their dad’s mess and save the family’s business enterprises. Season 3 ended in August.

McBee Sr. told People last year that not only was he meeting with “pardon attorneys,” but was also getting advice from fellow TV star Todd Chrisley of another Bravo reality show, “Chrisley Knows Best.”

Chrisley and his wife, Julie Chrisley, were both convicted in 2022 on federal charges of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, and tax evasion, and sent to prison but got out early when President Trump granted them full pardons last year.

The family renovated Steve Sr.’s lodge while he was away and created a home office for him at the family farm.

The day before he came home, Steven Jr. posted a photo of a pile of books he left near the front door for his dad.

“Got my old man a list of some of my favorite reads (about 20 more coming in tomorrow),” he wrote. “Big believer that reading is single-handedly one of the best things you can do to immediately improve your life and outlook/mindset.”

“Family members and business associates expect Steve Sr.’s return to significantly impact both family life and business operations, with Steven Jr. noting positive personal changes in his father after prison,” Bravo reported.

Galyna Saltkovska, Steve Sr.’s ex-girlfriend who still works with the family, is unsure what her former boyfriend’s return will bring.

“It’s definitely going to affect (the business.) He is crazy hungry to get back to business, obviously,” she said last month on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.”

“He was on vacation for the last nine months, so ... it’s going to be interesting. I am unsure what to expect.”

Bravo has not announced plans for a Season 4.
