A Whitworth University Student is the Recipient of the First Annual Frances & Earl Perry Scholarship

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Marc Whitehead & Associates, a Houston-based law firm that specializes in obtaining disability compensation, announced today the winning applicant of the Frances & Earl Perry Memorial Veterans Scholarship as part of the law firm’s efforts to give back to American veterans.

Marc Whitehead & Associates offers the Frances & Earl Perry Memorial Veterans Scholarship to help returning soldiers and their families pursue their educational goals and position them for future success. The winning applicant for this year’s scholarship is Whitworth University student Justin Mebes of Walla Walla, Washington. Mebes plans to follow his father’s footsteps by joining the United States Army as an officer.

The annual winning applicant of the Frances & Earl Perry Memorial Veterans Scholarship is awarded $5,000. Scholarship funds may be used to assist with tuition, books and related educational expenses at qualifying undergraduate institutions, and in the curriculum of their choice.

Those interested in applying to the scholarship program must be a U.S. Veteran, hold U.S. veteran status having served honorably, or a child of a United States veteran.

The scholarship is named after the uncle and aunt of Marc Whitehead, founding partner of Marc Whitehead & Associates. Earl was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and was one of the first members of the United States Air Force. He and his wife Frances were “one of the best examples of ‘the greatest generation’” said Whitehead. “They met when Frances was doing her patriotic duty of writing to soldiers in World War II, one of whom was Earl. They became pen pals, then married when he returned stateside.” Their lives inspired Whitehead’s desire to help disabled veterans obtain their disability compensation.
