Marc Whitehead & Associates, a National Disability Law Firm, Awards Scholarship to Disabled Student

Business Wire

A University of Delaware Student is the first recipient of the Flora Marie Jenkins Scholarship

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Marc Whitehead & Associates, a Houston-based law firm that specializes in obtaining disability compensation, announced today the winning applicant of the Flora Marie Jenkins Scholarship as part of their efforts to assist disabled students future success.

Marc Whitehead & Associates observes firsthand the unique challenges that disabled men and women face each day, and the strength and perseverance necessary to overcome obstacles. The Flora Marie Jenkins scholarship awards money to aspiring individuals with disabilities who wish to further their education. Julia LiPuma, a student at University of Delaware, was awarded the $5000 scholarship. Scholarship funds may be used to assist with tuition, books and related educational expenses at qualifying undergraduate institutions, and in the curriculum of their choice.

LiPuma is studying psychology with plans to help people with disabilities professionally. She began her studies by enrolling in the university’s Get Ahead program, which is offered to incoming freshman who want to get a jump-start on their degree. Currently, she is continuing her Freshman year studies by taking 12 more credits at the University of Delaware.

The scholarship is named after the late mother-in-law of Marc Whitehead, founding partner of Marc Whitehead & Associates. “She had a heart of gold,” said Tina Whitehead, Marc’s wife and Flora Marie Jenkins’ daughter. “She worked hard for those who couldn’t speak up for themselves, and would be so honored to know her name is on a scholarship that provides students with disabilities the financial support to make their higher education possible.”

Those interested in applying to the scholarship program must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent U.S. residents with a documented disability, and accepted or enrolled at an institution of higher learning.
