25 years ago – 1997

The atmosphere in Marz Sweet Shop is like the glimmer of a distant memory. Display cases filled with homemade candies run through the store. Marz Sweet Shop is celebrating its 50th year in business this Friday the 13th. Three generations of Marazitas have worked in the shop.

35 years ago – 1987

A self-insurance organization being formed by 27 Michigan school districts is causing somewhat of a stir in the insurance industry, the Benton Harbor School Board was told Tuesday night. The school board is being asked to join the Middle Cities Risk Management Trust, a new self-insurance pool that could involve up to 27 urban schools districts who are members of the Middle Cities Education Association.

50 years ago – 1972

Air Force C-119 Transport from Kansas City, Mo., made an emergency landing Saturday at the Twin Cities Airport when the right engine failed. It was met by five fire trucks from the Twin Cities departments. No one was hurt.
