DAYTON, Ohio, July 1 -- Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, issued the following news release:
Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) visited Trotwood and Beavercreek to view tornado damage and to discuss ongoing recovery efforts with local leaders.
"Today, I had the opportunity to tour and discuss the tornado damage in Trotwood and Beavercreek with local law enforcement and community leaders," said Portman. "I saw first-hand the ongoing recovery efforts, and I'm proud of the Dayton community for coming together to help with the relief efforts. Our discussions were informative and I'll continue to work on behalf of this community on the Federal level to see that we continue to help the rebuilding efforts."
On May 28, Portman toured some of the damage inflicted by the tornadoes and storms that struck southwest Ohio the night before. Shortly following the tornados, Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) wrote to President Trump urging him to approve Governor DeWine'sJune 11 request for a major disaster declaration, which would help ensure that the impacted counties can access important federal assistance and resources to recover.
On June 18, Portman thanked FEMA and the Trump administration for swiftly approving the major disaster declaration. He visited Dayton again on June 28 to get an update on ongoing recovery efforts.
