Idaho A.G. Wasden: Kootenai County Woman Sentenced for Insurance Fraud

BOISE, Idaho, July 10 -- Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden issued the following news release:

Attorney General Lawrence Wasden has announced a Kootenai County woman was sentenced Monday, July 8, for insurance fraud (https://idaho.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4e87d3a5efd1411418d70136f&id=b5ed8f788c&e=36a3990029).

A jury found 45-year-old Ximena McKenna, of Coeur d'Alene, guilty on two counts during an April trial.

First District Court Judge Scott Wayman sentenced McKenna to two years supervised probation and 100 hours of community service. The judge also ordered McKenna to pay a $5,000 fine, $1,180 in restitution to the Idaho Department of Insurance, $1,365 in restitution to insurance provider Country Financial, as well as court costs. The court also ordered a withheld judgment.

An investigation revealed McKenna reported to Nationwide Insurance that she was injured during an auto accident in November 2015. She claimed she was injured while sitting in the front passenger seat of a car that was rear-ended. McKenna sought medical treatment and told providers her injuries had occurred during the accident. Investigators later determined that McKenna was not a passenger in the car when it was struck.

Deputy Attorney General Jessica Cafferty in the Attorney General's Special Prosecutions Unit prosecuted the case. The Idaho Department of Insurance investigated.
