Hurricane Dorian: Hundreds of thousands of Florida homes at risk of storm surge, analyst says
News-Journal (Daytona Beach, FL)
As Hurricane Dorian intensifies and threatens Florida, hundreds of thousands of homes worth billions of dollars are at risk of storm surge.
That's according to an analysis by property information company CoreLogic (NYSE: CLGX), which tallied up the value of all the homes in Dorian's still-wide cone of uncertainty as of Thursday evening.

If Dorian is a Category 3 storm when it makes landfall, CoreLogic says 668,052 single-family and multifamily homes along the coast of Florida with a reconstruction value of nearly $145 billion are at potential risk of storm surge damage.
If the storm reaches Cat 4 intensity, the number at homes at risk approach 1 million.
CoreLogic acknowledges that actual damage will be less, because the storm is unlikely to create flooding along the entire coastline from Miami to Jacksonville.
Private insurers don't cover flood damage, so the tab for water claims would fall to the National Flood Insurance Program.
