Hoyer Statement on CBO Score of GOP Effort to Repeal the ACA Without A Replacement
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the Congressional Budget Office score of Senate Republicans' plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act without a replacement:
"Once again, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has shown us the danger of Republicans' attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and the potential harm to Americans. According to the CBO's analysis, Senate Republicans' latest plan to repeal the law without replacing it would cause 32 million Americans to lose their coverage. It also found that by 2020, nearly half of Americans would be living in counties with no insurers offering plans in the individual market. Premiums would increase 25% next year above current law and 100% by 2026.
"Americans support improving the law, not scrapping it, and Democrats continue to be ready to sit down with Republicans to craft legislation to make sure the law can achieve its goals of helping all Americans access quality, affordable health care. I call on House and Senate Republican leaders to set their dangerous repeal plans aside and get to work with us on bipartisan improvements to the law."
