House fire likely electrical

Cleburne Times-Review (TX)

March 29-- Mar. 29--Overuse of cheap extension cords likely caused a March 21 house fire, Cleburne firefighters said.

Firefighters responded at 5:28 p.m. to the 500 block of East Willingham Street to find heavy fire and smoke showing from the single-story, wood-frame home. Heavy, turbulent smoke was pouring from the attic eaves, according to reports.

Firefighters broke the glass of the storm door to gain access to the front of the house. Firefighters first extinguished the home's front porch before making entry. They went on to pull ceiling to access the attic and cut into the roof to access hot spots and provide ventilation.

Assistant Fire Chief Keith Scarbrough said the home sustained heavy damage with much of the contents lost. No one was home at the time of the fire.

Firefighters recovered a deceased pit bull following a Wednesday shed fire.

Firefighters responded to an initial call of outside fire investigation at 7:47 p.m. in the 1100 block of Chester Street. Upon arrival they found a shed on fire instead with possible exposure to the nearby house. The 10 foot by 10 foot storage building was fully involved, according to reports.

Firefighters proceeded with caution because of a downed power line laying across the shed. Oncor officials arrived shortly after and cut power to the line. Firefighters then extinguished the shed with about 2,200 gallons of water.

The occupants renting the home said they heard something and went outside to see the shed on fire with sparks shooting from its top. One of the renters managed to get two of the dogs out of the shed but told firefighters the third was too scared to come out and died in the fire. The occupants had no renters insurance, according to reports.

Firefighters responded to reports of trash being burned in a yard at 4:57 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of West Wilson Street to find no signs of fire. Further investigation revealed a small pile of partially burned papers that had been already extinguished. Firefighters informed the homeowners that it's illegal to burn within city limits and cleared the scene.

Cleburne police calls

A March 19 traffic accident led to a woman's arrest on two charges.

Police responded at 9:25 p.m. to the 1300 block of Poindexter Avenue. They charged one of the drivers involved -- Roxanne Andrea Cagney, 61, of Johnson County -- with driving while intoxicated. After she allegedly kicked one of the officers on scene they added assault of public servant to her list of charges.

Police responded at 2:54 p.m. March 18 to the 200 block of Chad Street on reports of indecent exposure but found no one present upon arrival.

Police responded to a theft call at 5:25 p.m. March 19 in the 400 block of Bellevue Drive. Someone stole miscellaneous tools from the premises.

Police responded at 6:43 p.m. the same day to the 200 block of Boyd Street. Vandals damaged the window trim and screen of the victim's house, according to reports.

Police responded to a fraud call at 1:27 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of South Oran Street. Someone used the victim's credit card without permission.

Police responded at 6:06 p.m. the same day to the 2200 block of North Main Street. Someone stole a 2-year-old female husky from the victim's vehicle.

Police responded to a theft call at 2:16 p.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of West Henderson Street. Someone stole a TV from a hotel room.

Police responded to a second theft call at 8:29 p.m. the same day in the 1100 block of Poindexter Avenue. Someone stole firearms from the premises.

Police responded at 10:29 a.m. Thursday to 800 block of North Nolan River Road. Someone stole items from a student's backpack, which was placed in an unlocked locker during the student's athletic period.
