Gov. Tom Wolf to deliver commencement at York College

March 20--Gov. Tom Wolf will deliver the spring 2018 commencement address at York College -- the school's 50th -- this May.

The York County-born governor will be joined by Glatfelter Insurance Group CEO and York College graduate Anthony Campisi, who will receive an honorary doctorate at the 650-student-strong graduation ceremony set for May 12 , according to a news release from the college.

"We are honored to celebrate our 50th commencement with Gov. Wolf and Mr. Campisi," said York College President Pamela Gunter-Smith in the release. "Both are longtime friends of the college, whose distinguished leadership and generosity have meant so much to the York College community and beyond."

Both Wolf and Campisi have served on York College's board of trustees and have supported the college over their careers, the release states.

Wolf's has enacted several initiatives in his first term that have trickled down to York College, including the It's On Us campaign to combat campus sexual assault.

Grant money received by York College led to the hiring of the college's first sexual assault education education and programs coordinator last March, according to the college.

York College received another It's On Us grant year last week, which the college says will be used to further increase awareness efforts among the student body.

In addition, Wolf and state Auditor General Eugene DePasquale announced last week that they would co-chair a new School Safety Task Force to collect ideas and obtain perspectives on school safety policies.

The commencement: The 2018 commencement will take place on the York College campus mall at 10:15 a.m. on May 12 and is a ticketed event for students, staff and loved ones.
