Fire fighters rescue dog from burning home

San Angelo Standard-Times (TX)

Feb. 15--SAN ANGELO -- It took three attempts, but San Angelo fire fighters were able to rescue "Copper," a pet chihuahua from a burning home at 3918 W. Beauregard Ave. on Wednesday.

The owners of the home, John and Kari Tue, were not home at the time. Two other family dogs were in the fenced in backyard and not injured.

"We're so grateful," said John Tue, as he watched firefighters work to extinguish the house fire. "The fire department did a great job. They were really on the ball."

The fire appears to have originated from a bedroom outlet, said Fire Marshall Joanna Jackson. The fire, which was contained to the bedroom, caused "a couple thousand dollars" worth of property damage, she said. Very little structural damage was found, although the fire did create heavy smoke which permeated throughout the home.

The fire was reported at 11:30 a.m., by Abel Tarin and Bryan Rangel, who were doing some yard work across the street. The men said they noticed "a lot of smoke coming from the home."

"I went up to the house and touched the window, it was very hot," said Rangel. "We could hear a dog barking, but couldn't get the door open."

John Tue, who had went to the grocery store 15 minutes earlier; returned and tried to coax the frightened dog to come out the front door. Fire fighters then rushed into the home and rescued "Copper."
