Oct. 11--Frederick County and city residents have until the end of the month to review and comment on the Federal Emergency Management Agency's updated Flood Insurance Rate Map and Flood Insurance Study report.
According to a fact sheet from FEMA, the preliminary data shows updates to the majority of flood plain boundaries for communities in the Monocacy and Middle Potomac-Catoctin watersheds, which includes Frederick County.
According to a city-issued news release, residents and community officials have until Oct. 31 to review the data and suggest changes or corrections to pieces of nontechnical information, including corporate limits, road names and stream names.
After the review period is finished, the release said FEMA officials will host a public meeting to discuss any comments. From there, a 90-day appeal period will begin, followed by reveal of the new maps, complete with the revised data, seven to 10 months later.
City property owners may contact the city's Engineering Department to review the updated information or contact Richard Albee at 301-600-3828 or [email protected] with questions.
